PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23129 p4p, 23347 weight class) and Wala Sapi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 56 - 76 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 66 - 59 - 14, fighting out of Las Vegas, Wala Sapi!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Libat.
Sapi is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Sapi shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Libat's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Libat wants to sweep here but Sapi controlling him for the moment.
Sapi controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Libat has his hands on Sapi's head, controlling the position.
Libat trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Sapi is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Libat wants to stand up but Sapi is controlling him.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Libat lands with a nice body kick.
Sapi will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Libat looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Sapi is looking for a sweep. Libat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Libat in particular looking to stall.
Libat seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sapi for as long as he can get away with.
Libat's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Sapi desperately trying to maintain half guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Higanti Libat dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Sapi shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Libat as he jumps to the side.
Libat thinks about countering with a body kick.

Sapi looking to score a takedown here. Libat is defending well but Sapi drives through and ends up in Libat's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sapi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Libat looking to control.

Libat wants to sweep but no luck.
Libat is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Further stalling from Libat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Libat wants to hit a sweep here but Sapi passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Libat there!
Libat tries to lock up and control but Sapi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wala Sapi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Sapi takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Libat is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Sapi sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.

Sapi avoids the attempt from Libat to control.
Sapi controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Libat working to try and regain half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Libat wants to control but Sapi is having none of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Wala Sapi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Sapi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Sapi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Libat is not content to let Sapi control the position.

Libat is trying to control Sapi's posture but Sapi avoids it.
Sapi wants to control but Libat is keeping him busy.
Sapi takes a little break here. Libat wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sapi shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Libat but Libat pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Libat throws a big counter combination but Sapi scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
Sapi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Libat swivels and escapes.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Libat shoots in looking for a takedown but Sapi manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Libat's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Sapi is clearly looking to counter with head kicks.

Libat closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Sapi to the mat! Sapi manages to get full guard.

Libat looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Wala Sapi.
I think Sapi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
