PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Rupert Helenius (ranked 1441 p4p, 442 weight class) and John Dory (ranked 182 p4p, 61 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that John Dory was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 13 - 2, fighting out of London, Rupert Helenius!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Dory!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Helenius fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Dory avoids it really well and circles away.
A countering left hand to the body from Dory misses.

Dory gets caught flat footed, as Helenius shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Dory is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Helenius is very frustrated here, being controlled quite effectively by Dory.

Dory is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Dory gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Dory gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Dory apologises and we restart here on the feet.

Helenius wants the takedown. Dory is fighting it off but Helenius persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Dory's guard against the cage.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rupert Helenius will probably get the nod.

Helenius has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Dory doesn't defend quickly enough and Helenius has managed to lock this one up! Can Dory escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Helenius on a fantastic submission victory.
