PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Presley Chai (ranked 119 p4p, 296 weight class) and Aleksandr Pushkin (ranked 15 p4p, 34 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 13 - 0, fighting out of London, Presley Chai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aleksandr Pushkin!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yuuki Gou and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pushkin with a poor takedown
and Chai counters with a stiff right hand.
Chai lands a jab to the head.
Chai misses with a left hand

and Pushkin counters with a nice double leg into side control. Chai won't be happy with that.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Pushkin wants to control but Chai is keeping him busy.
Chai is looking for a sweep.
Chai's coaches at Master Chai's Dojo have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Pushkin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chai keeps working.

Pushkin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Chai is just riding it out for now. Pushkin eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Chai has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Pushkin can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chai is in trouble now - Pushkin has advanced to mount!

Chai is looking for a sweep. Pushkin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Aleksandr Pushkin dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Chai thuds his right hand into Pushkin's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Pushkin gets the takedown into side control.
Chai tries to buck Pushkin off but Pushkin is having none of it.
Pushkin has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Chai is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Pushkin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Chai knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Pushkin working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chai reaches up to try and control the position but Pushkin seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Chai rolls and tries to escape and now Pushkin has his back!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Pushkin has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Chai has freed his hand and lives to survive another� well, another couple of seconds at least!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Pushkin throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch.
Chai can't escape the position.

Pushkin is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Chai defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Chai wants to escape the position.
Pushkin connects with a big shot to the side of Chai's head.

Pushkin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Chai doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Chai manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Aleksandr Pushkin showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Nice takedown defense from Chai. No joy for Pushkin on that attempt.
