PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Allejo Madera (ranked 3502 p4p, 24267 weight class) and Dwight Shrute (ranked 410 p4p, 565 weight class). Shrute has chosen Battlestart Galactica theme as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Allejo Madera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 46 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dwight Shrute!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Madera misses with a low kick.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Madera enables Shrute to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Madera manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Shrute wants to pass the guard but Madera is keeping the position.

Shrute avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Madera controls Shrute momentarily but Shrute frees himself.
Madera is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at 3Band MMA that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Madera has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shrute content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Madera is trying to control the position but Shrute postures up.
Madera keeping moving, preventing Shrute from controlling successfully.
Madera utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Madera looking to hit a scissor sweep but Shrute is one step ahead there.

Shrute is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Shrute really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Madera. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Madera is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Madera closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Shrute did well to prevent Madera getting side control.

Shrute trying to hold on to Madera's head to control him but Madera postures up.

Madera seems to be looking for submissions.
Madera is nestled in close to Shrute, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Shrute is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Madera controlling the pace.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Madera works his way into side control.
Shrute tries to buck Madera off but Madera is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Madera trying to control the action but Shrute is working from the bottom.
Madera landing strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Madera is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shrute is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Madera is looking to take a break and control but Shrute is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Allejo Madera dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.


Madera closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Madera wants to control but Shrute is keeping him busy.
Shrute is pressing down on Madera's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Madera is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Madera decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Dwight Shrute seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Shrute pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Shrute misses with a looping right.

Madera darts in and clinches Shrute up against the cage.
Shrute wants to break free but Madera has control.
Madera stalls.
Shrute tries to pull guard but Madera forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Shrute tries for a takedown but Madera manages to get underhooks.

Shrute breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Madera looking to score a takedown here. Shrute is defending well but Madera drives through and ends up in Shrute's guard.
Shrute is breathing heavily.
Madera won't allow Shrute to sweep him here.
Madera scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Madera is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Madera wants to control from the top but Shrute keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Madera displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Shrute.
Madera seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Allejo Madera has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dwight Shrute.
Shrute lands with an uppercut that bounces Madera off the cage and back into range.
Allejo Madera is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Madera moves out of range of the strikes.
Shrute throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Madera counters with a left and a right that stings Shrute.

Madera takes the fight into the clinch.

Madera breaks the clinch.
Madera throws an overhand right that drops Shrute like a sack of potatoes! Madera dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!
