PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Yawa Kiang (ranked 23437 p4p, 23376 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Way Nada enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 83 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Yawa Kiang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 63 - 66 - 5, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Kiang shoots in but Nada avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Kiang tries to sprawl but Nada drives through with a takedown into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Nada in particular looking to stall.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Kiang tries to roll over but Nada keeps him under control.
Nada with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
It looks like Nada might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Kiang wants to control but Nada is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kiang keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Kiang is looking to counter with a body kick.

Nada darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kiang throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Kiang is trying is best to control the position here.
Kiang is looking to control Nada's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Kiang avoid being mounted?

Kiang changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Nada tries to avoid it but Kiang manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Nada to the ground. Nada escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Nada replies with a solid counter kick to the body but Kiang blocks it well.

Kiang changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Nada looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Nada holds on tight, trying to prevent any damage.
Nada's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Way Nada has got the better of the ground game so far.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Nada closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Nada is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Nada dives in and grabs Kiang's left leg, looking for a takedown. Kiang pushes down on Nada's head and hops out.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kiang shoots in but Nada avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Nada was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Nada feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!

Kiang gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Nada counters with a nice body kick.
Nada closes the distance and clinches up with Kiang, looking for a takedown. Nada pushes Kiang against the cage but Kiang circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Kiang slaps away a takedown attempt from Nada, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Nada shoots for a double leg takedown but Kiang sprawls well. He's pushed Nada's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Yawa Kiang has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Way Nada.
Nada fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Kiang went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Nada wants to stand and escape but Kiang is having none of it.

Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Kiang controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Kiang with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Nada manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kiang manages to get himself to full guard.

Kiang has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Nada seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Yawa Kiang has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Way Nada is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Nada has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
