This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 36 wins and 44 losses; Dragon Li Chai! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Las Vegas, with a TWGC record of 59 wins and 61 losses; Ceph Alopodis! The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Yukihiro Yamamoto and Shigeki Fujiwara.
The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Alopodis darts in looking for a takedown but Chai gets double underhooks and turns Alopodis into the cage. Alopodis closes the distance and clinches up with Chai, looking for a takedown. Alopodis pushes Chai against the cage but Chai circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Chai shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Alopodis as he avoids it easily.
Alopodis drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Score +2 for takedown into guard / half guard: Chai (0) vs (2) Alopodis Chai has Alopodis pulled in close to control his posture. Chai looking to hit a scissor sweep but Alopodis is one step ahead there. Chai is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Chai is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Chai working a defensive guard but Alopodis manages to pass into side control anyway.

Let's see whether that pays dividends! The referee tells the fighters to keep busy. We've been hearing good reports from Chai's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today. Chai is trying to control Alopodis's posture but Alopodis avoids it.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Alopodis is staying tight to Chai's torso, preventing him from escaping. Let's hope that Alopodis has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Alopodis.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Chai struggling a bit here. Chai tries to get back to half guard but can't. Alopodis is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. It looks like Alopodis might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it. Alopodis working away. Alopodis is staying tight to Chai's torso, preventing him from escaping.
 That's five minutes gone in the round. Chai can't do much from the bottom here. Alopodis staying calm.
 That's six minutes gone in the round. Chai is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
 That's seven minutes gone in the round. Chai struggling a bit here. Chai is looking for a sweep. Chai gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Chai is trying to get back to full guard.
 That's eight minutes gone in the round. Alopodis takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Chai keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Chai might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Chai trying to control from the bottom.
 That's nine minutes gone in the round. Chai wants to get back to full guard. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Alopodis in particular looking to stall. Alopodis's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Chai is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
 That's ten minutes gone in the round. Chai is trying to control but can't.
Alopodis looking to pass the half guard. Not this time. Chai wants to control but Alopodis is keeping busy and won't allow it. Alopodis is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Yet more stalling tactics from Alopodis.
 That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Alopodis passes the guard and advances to mount! Score +3 for passing guard: Chai (0) vs (8) Alopodis Chai wants to hold on but Alopodis pushes him away. Well,Chai is on his way to losing a decision here. Can he use his experience to pull something off in the closing minutes?
 That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Alopodis seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Chai is holding on tight.
Chai is wriggling around trying to escape.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Chai manages to control the position for a moment. Chai is trying desperately to improve position.
 That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. Chai is trying to reverse the position but instead Alopodis has taken his back - oops! Score +3 for taking back: Chai (0) vs (11) Alopodis Alopodis controlling from the back.
 That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Chai is defending well here and trying to improve his position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Chai is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Chai trying to control the position but Alopodis manages to sink in the hooks.
And that's the end of the fight! Alopodis wins on points by 11 to 0. Ceph Alopodis gave a mention to Urban Fighter in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales). |
