Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Joao Miyao (ranked 1989 p4p, 3428 weight class) and Andre Koefti (ranked 176 p4p, 286 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Koefti's choice of entrance music: IZ - E Ala E. Andre Koefti is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Joao Miyao!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 17 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Andre Koefti!
The judges for this bout are Ben Watson, Skip Squint and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A chopping leg kick lands by Koefti.
Koefti buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Miyao closes this distance looking for a takedown but Koefti circles away.
Koefti throws a jab but it's blocked by Miyao.
Miyao appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Koefti misses with a low kick as Miyao jumps back.
Miyao fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Koefti looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Miyao clobbers Koefti with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

and Miyao counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Koefti uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Miyao has time to react.
Koefti fails to land with a series of punches.

Miyao throws out a powerful jab.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Miyao in particular looking to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Miyao is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Koefti defends it well.
Miyao wants to pass to mount but Koefti is defending the position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Koefti can do anything to dispel that myth.

Miyao wants to work for an arm triangle but Koefti is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Miyao works his foot free and advances to mount.

Miyao has hold of Koefti's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Koefti manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Koefti's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Miyao is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Koefti has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Koefti!

Koefti throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Miyao sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Miyao takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Miyao fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Koefti to the ground. Miyao is now in Koefti's guard.

Miyao has control of Koefti's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Koefti regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Koefti tries to buck Miyao off but he can't manage it.

Miyao goes for an armbar but he's not got it� Koefti turns into him and now he's in Miyao's guard.

Koefti is fighting to break Miyao's control of his arms but Miyao is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Miyao's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That was a close second round but I would say that Joao Miyao will probably get the nod.
