PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Walay Buut (ranked 23294 p4p, 23277 weight class) and Minatay Mibangon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 68 - 57 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 50 - 66 - 14, fighting out of Las Vegas, Minatay Mibangon! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Gwen Towbar and Cecil Peabody.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Mibangon looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Buut! Buut is looking to regain half guard here but Mibangon keeps moving and retains side control. Mibangon controlling the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buut is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now. Buut is looking for a sweep.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Buut is being controlled here. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. It looks like Mibangon might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
 The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet. Mibangon misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Buut shoots in and bounces Mibangon off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Buut looking to control the position here, rather than advance. Mibangon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Mibangon's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. Buut is looking to work some ground and pound but Mibangon has wrist control. Buut is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions. Mibangon not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Mibangon looking to hit a scissor sweep but Buut is one step ahead there.
 The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Mibangon stuffs the takedown. Mibangon steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.
Mibangon drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mibangon is looking to take a break and control but Buut is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Mibangon controlling the position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Minatay Mibangon dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Mibangon shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Mibangon was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Buut wants to control but Mibangon postures up. Mibangon has been the more effective fighter overall so far. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buut has one of Mibangon's arms on lockdown, trying to prevent him from doing any damage. Mibangon working away.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Mibangon taking a breather here. Buut struggling a bit here. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Buut trying to remain calm as Mibangon controls from the top position.
 The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Buut slaps away a takedown attempt from Mibangon, before circling back to the center of the mat. Buut is looking to counter with a body kick. Mibangon will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
 That's three minutes gone in the round.
Buut shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Mibangon manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Mibangon pulls Buut in to control the position. Buut tries to free his leg and advance position but Mibangon is retaining full guard. Buut is fighting to break Mibangon's control of his arms but Mibangon is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. Buut controls from within his opponent's guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Buut postures up in Mibangon's guard and throws a big left but Mibangon blocks it. Buut is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control. The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup. Buut has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
 The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Buut looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Walay Buut dominated that second round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
Buut fails with a takedown attempt. Mibangon shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Buut pinned against the cage. Buut gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Buut appears to be looking for a big counter. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Buut shoots in but no luck this time. Mibangon is trying to counter with his kicks.
 That's one minute gone in the round. Mibangon fails with a takedown attempt. Buut jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit. Buut closes the distance and clinches up with Mibangon, looking for a takedown. Buut pushes Mibangon against the cage but Mibangon circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. As Buut backs off Mibangon throws a huge counter combo but Buut manages to avoid it all. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Walay Buut. That's going to take a lot out of him. Buut shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Mibangon sprawls well. Mibangon wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Buut gets slowly back to his feet.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Mibangon doesn't succeed with the takedown and Buut counters with a left and a right that stings Mibangon. Mibangon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Buut but Buut pushes him off and we're back to square one.
 That's three minutes gone in the round. Buut scores with a spinning back kick! Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Buut looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Mibangon! Buut slows the pace down.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mibangon is looking to reverse the position. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Buut remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
And that's the end of the fight! Walay Buut showed his dominance in that final round. I think Buut has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
