The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way.
Mondragon is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gracie's half guard. Gracie has Mondragon pulled in close to control his posture. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mondragon is stalling in the full guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Mondragon slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard. We've been hearing good reports from Gracie's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

And that's the end of the fight! Mondragon wins on points by 8 to 0. A relieved looking Esteban Mondragon thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it. |
