Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ryu Akutagawa (ranked 617 p4p, 781 weight class) and David Hanson (ranked 81 p4p, 99 weight class). Hanson is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Subcouds - on red. Ryu Akutagawa could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to David Hanson's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryu Akutagawa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 18 - 15 - 1, fighting out of London, David Hanson! The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.
 The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Akutagawa scores with a sloppy right hand. Hanson should have avoided that one. Hanson avoids a punch combination nicely.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Hanson has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat. Akutagawa lands with a hook. Hanson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head. A low kick from Akutagawa misses
and Hanson counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Akutagawa blocking the ground and pound attempt from Hanson.
Hanson is working for a submission of some sort.

 That's one minute gone in the round. Akutagawa tries to kick Hanson off but Hanson keeps his base steady and stays in half guard. Hanson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Akutagawa's head. Akutagawa is in trouble now - Hanson has advanced to mount! Hanson lands a heavy elbow.
 It looks like Ryu Akutagawa has been cut. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Hanson throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Akutagawa holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Hanson tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Hanson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Hanson has control of Akutagawa's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Akutagawa regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Hanson jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Akutagawa manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Hanson goes for an armbar! This could be all over! Wait, no, Akutagawa rolls with the submission and now he's on top in Hanson's guard! Nice work there by Akutagawa!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hanson lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
Hanson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Akutagawa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Hanson is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Akutagawa is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Akutagawa has escaped and now he's on top!

Hanson had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Akutagawa defends it easily.
Akutagawa got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hanson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Akutagawa has managed to get both his arms back between Hanson's legs - danger averted.
Hanson has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Akutagawa is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Hanson. Akutagawa wants to stand but Hanson has his arm trapped.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Hanson manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

David Hanson dominated that round. The cut man is working on Ryu Akutagawa's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

and Hanson counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Akutagawa tries a body shot but Hanson blocks it.

Hanson tries to score a body lock takedown but Akutagawa shows good agility there to stay on his feet. Akutagawa swings wildly with an uppercut but Hanson uses good head movement to avoid it. Hanson goes for a takedown in the clinch but Akutagawa prevents it.
Ryu Akutagawa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Hanson. An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Akutagawa. Hanson is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hanson has Akutagawa pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Hanson pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Akutagawa tumbling to the mat - Hanson dives into Akutagawa's guard. Hanson throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Akutagawa works some decent striking defense from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hanson postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Hanson trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Hanson throws an elbow that misses. Akutagawa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hanson's guard. Nice move by Akutagawa!

Hanson looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Akutagawa has picked Hanson up and slammed him! Hanson can't keep hold of the triangle and Akutagawa manages to pass to side control! Hanson is trying to improve his position. Akutagawa tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
 That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Hanson has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Hanson is trying to get back to half guard. Akutagawa wants to stand but Hanson has his arm trapped. Hanson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Akutagawa blocks the strikes from Hanson.

 That's three minutes gone in the round. Hanson throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing. Hanson keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
 That's four minutes gone in the round. Akutagawa blocks Hanson's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Hanson tries to get back to half guard but can't. Hanson is still trying to improve position. And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.
Ryu Akutagawa dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Ryu Akutagawa's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Akutagawa lands a left and a right that send Hanson crashing to the mat, dazed. Akutagawa thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
 Hanson is rocked!
 It looks like David Hanson has been cut. Akutagawa throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Hanson dodges the punch combination from Akutagawa.
A head kick misses from Akutagawa. Hanson throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Akutagawa's waist but Akutagawa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hanson off to one side. Akutagawa feints with a jab and clips Hanson right behind the ear with a massive overhand right! Hanson is sent crashing into the canvas and Akutagawa leaps in for the kill! Hanson tries to get to his feet but Akutagawa is just battering him from every conceivable angle. The ref decides that Hanson is in need of a savior and steps in!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:45 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ryu Akutagawa! During a confident post fight interview, Ryu Akutagawa thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
