PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Higanti Libat (ranked 23060 p4p, 23316 weight class) and Way Nada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 45 - 68 - 6, fighting out of Las Vegas, Higanti Libat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 56 - 60 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Way Nada!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Frank Dennis and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Nada darts in looking for a takedown but Libat gets double underhooks and turns Nada into the cage.
Libat jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.

Libat shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nada is trying to defend but Libat finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Libat perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada is trying to stand up here but Libat is controlling him well.
Nada trying to hold on to Libat's head to control him but Libat postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Libat in particular looking to stall.
Nada wants to improve his position but Libat is controlling well.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Libat prevents Nada from standing back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Libat gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nada trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Libat is controlling Nada's posture.
Nada stopping the sweep attempt from Libat.
Nada slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Nada throws a big elbow that misses.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Libat has Nada pulled in close to control his posture.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Nada in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Nada takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.

Libat closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nada is trying to improve his position.
Nada wants to control but Libat postures up.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Nada is in a bad spot here and he knows it... just holding on for now.
Nada is looking to reverse the position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Higanti Libat will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Nada is working for takedown but Libat is calmly controlling the position for now.

Nada has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Libat uses from the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Nada trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Nada might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Libat haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Nada seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Libat's corner is telling him to maintain position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Libat shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Nada pinned against the cage. Nada gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nada changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Libat enables Nada to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Libat manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nada showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Libat is pulling down on Nada's head. It's preventing any offense from Nada, at least for the moment.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Nada's corner is telling him to maintain position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Way Nada showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Nada drives through with a takedown into guard.
Libat pulls Nada in to control the position.
Libat working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Nada.
Libat not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Nada throws a strike but Libat rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nada looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Libat preventing the sweep.
Nada pulls Libat in close to prevent any damage.
Nada is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Libat will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Libat shoots in for a double leg but Nada sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
And Nada responds with a good body kick, but Libat manages to step out the way in time.
Libat takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Nada throws a body kick that misses
and Libat counters with a left and a right that stings Nada.

Nada drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Libat tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
You can see the frustration on Libat's face as Nada controls the position.
Libat tries to improve position but can't.
Nada has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Libat is looking to regain half guard here but Nada keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Nada staying calm.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Way Nada comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Nada has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
