Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Elijah Highlander (ranked 2760 p4p, 3058 weight class) and Tribal Chief (ranked 248 p4p, 264 weight class). Chief has chosen Roman reigns entrance as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Elijah Highlander!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tribal Chief!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Chief changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Highlander looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Highlander sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Chief is looking for a kimura but Highlander is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Chief to get the leverage.

Highlander is defending against the submission attempts here by Chief.

Highlander is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Chief pulls his head out easily.
Chief misses with a head shot. Highlander uses the momentum to regain guard.
Chief has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Highlander escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Chief gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Chief working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.

Chief looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Highlander with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Highlander wants to control but Chief is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Chief is stalling here. Highlander is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Chief seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Highlander has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chief accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Highlander is staying active underneath Chief, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Highlander wants to control but Chief is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Chief seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Highlander does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Chief maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Highlander could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Chief has cracked it and Highlander is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Chief!
