PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Agbay Amiga (ranked 23137 p4p, 23404 weight class) and Helen Salvacion (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 47 - 63 - 7, fighting out of Las Vegas, Agbay Amiga!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 62 - 10, fighting out of Las Vegas, Helen Salvacion!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Cecil Peabody and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Amiga gets tackled into the cage by Salvacion. Salvacion maintains the clinch.

Salvacion has picked Amiga up - he's going for a ride! Salvacion dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Amiga is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Amiga is trying to stand.
Salvacion content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Let's hope that Salvacion has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Amiga trying to control but Salvacion postures up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Salvacion drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Amiga can't do much from the bottom here.
Salvacion remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Amiga is trying to get back to half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Salvacion looks for a takedown but Amiga sprawls well.
Amiga throws a quick counter head kick but Salvacion was just out of range.
Salvacion shoots for a double leg takedown but Amiga sprawls well. He's pushed Salvacion's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Amiga is looking to counter with head kicks.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Salvacion drives through with a takedown into Amiga's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Helen Salvacion dominated that round.
That's time! Amiga's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Salvacion feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Amiga is trying to keep Salvacion in close.
Amiga looking for a sweep. Not yet Amiga, not yet.
Amiga is adopting a defensive guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga wants to sweep here but Salvacion controlling him for the moment.
Helen Salvacion has got the better of the ground game so far.

Salvacion has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Amiga looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

Salvacion is striking off his back. Amiga thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.
Amiga is thwarting Salvacion's attempts to control the position.
Amiga is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.

Salvacion is holding on to half guard well.
Salvacion is looking for a sweep. Amiga is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Amiga content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Amiga gets a takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Amiga is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Agbay Amiga dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Horrible takedown attempt by Amiga or perhaps it was just good defense by Salvacion, which made it look bad.
Salvacion throws out a leg kick but Amiga moves out of range and Salvacion only half commits.
Salvacion shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Amiga as he jumps to the side.
Amiga jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's one minute gone in the round.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Amiga shoots in looking for a takedown but Salvacion manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Amiga's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Salvacion thinks about the counter body kick.
Amiga fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Salvacion doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Agbay Amiga. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A slapping body kick lands there for Salvacion.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Amiga goes for a double leg but Salvacion avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Salvacion continues to drive forward.
Salvacion goes for a takedown attempt but Amiga pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Salvacion leaves Amiga with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And Salvacion responds with a good body kick, but Amiga manages to step out the way in time.

Salvacion gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Amiga trying to stand up but can't free himself from Salvacion's guard.
Amiga looking to sit in guard and control but Salvacion gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Salvacion engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Amiga trying to control the position here.
Amiga is trying to control the position but Salvacion postures up.

Salvacion seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Helen Salvacion comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Salvacion has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
