PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Pablo Blades (ranked 1392 p4p, 2968 weight class) and Zeke Hester (ranked 155 p4p, 296 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Blades might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Three 6 Mafia - It's a fight. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hester steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Blades. That one must have hurt.
Blades throws a sloppy head kick and Hester moves out of range easily.
Hester doesn't manage to clinch there - Blades circles away.
Blades lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Hester at a distance.
Hester wants to clinch.
A decent looking cross lands there for Blades.

It looks like Zeke Hester has been cut.
Hester takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Hester tries to clinch up but Blades circles away and keeps his distance.
Hester has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Blades.
Hester tries to clinch but Blades moves out of range.
The fight stays on the outside here - Hester looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Blades counters with a series of strikes. Hester will be more careful next time no doubt.

Blades breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Blades avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Hester tries to close the distance and clinch but Blades swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Blades throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hester rushes Blades and presses him up against the cage.

Blades breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Hester pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the cage.

We've been told by Blades's head coaches at California Top Team that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.

Blades pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Hester looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Blades keeps the fight on the outside.

Blades seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Hester tries to close the distance and clinch but Blades swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Hester moves in looking to clinch but Blades pushes him off.

Oooooh!!! Blades has knocked Hester down with a huge combo! Blades steps away and waves a wobbly Hester back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!

Hester is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
A slapping leg kick lands for Blades.
Hester is still on wobbly legs! Can Blades finish him?
Blades looks for a left high kick but can't connect. Blades backs up to catch a breather... no he lunges forward with a huge flying knee that smacks Hester's temple! It sends Hester violently to the canvas! The crowd goes nuts as Blades celebrates and the doctors try to help Hester!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:24 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Flying Knee). Pablo Blades!
Pablo Blades bigged himself up after the win. The crowd seemed to love it.
