PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between David Goldberg (ranked 967 p4p, 1140 weight class) and Tevin Shay (ranked 118 p4p, 143 weight class). David Goldberg had a look across the cage there at his opponent. He definitely means business

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Goldberg!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tevin Shay!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Trevor Gratis and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Goldberg bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Goldberg throws a poor cross that misses
and Shay counters with a left to the body.
Goldberg walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Goldberg misses with an uppercut.
Goldberg keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Shay.
Goldberg misses with a takedown attempt - Shay sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Goldberg tests Shay's chin there with a solid looking shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shay looks to throw the jab but Goldberg is out of range.
Goldberg shoots in for a takedown but Shay shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Shay looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Goldberg gets to mount! Shay was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.

Goldberg jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Shay is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Shay and Goldberg has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Goldberg is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Shay has escaped the position, nice work there.

Goldberg misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Shay can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Goldberg is looking to escape.
Shay takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Shay working his ground and pound in the gym. So far it seems to be working well.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Shay is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Goldberg or perhaps it was just good defense by Shay, which made it look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for David Goldberg. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Shay throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Goldberg.
Shay throws a hook but Goldberg blocks it.
Goldberg takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Shay misses with an uppercut. Goldberg saw that one coming.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

David Goldberg seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Goldberg shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Shay manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Goldberg stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Shay swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Shay isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Goldberg stacks Shay on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Goldberg!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Shay is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Goldberg frees his head nicely. Oh but Shay has switched to an armbar! Goldberg is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!

A relieved looking Tevin Shay thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
