PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Filip Yumashev (ranked 1603 p4p, 1322 weight class) and Klaus Chugman (ranked 119 p4p, 99 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Filip Yumashev!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 48 - 47 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Klaus Chugman!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Chris Saunders and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yumashev throws a quick inside leg kick.

and Chugman counters with a single leg into guard. Yumashev didn't expect that.
Yumashev will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Yumashev is controlling Chugman's posture.

Chugman sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Yumashev's guard.
Yumashev's coaches at Patskun tappelukoulu have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Chugman tries to close the distance and clinch but Yumashev swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
It looked like Yumashev was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Chugman.
Yumashev digs a good body shot into Chugman's ribs.
Yumashev keeps the fight on the outside.
Yumashev attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

and Chugman decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Yumashev's guard.
Yumashev knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Chugman on the ground.

Chugman takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Chugman is trying to work for a kimura but Yumashev is defending well.
Yumashev wants to improve his position but Chugman is controlling well.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Chugman has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Yumashev uses from the top position.

Chugman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Yumashev defends it easily.

Chugman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Yumashev's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

and Chugman counters with a shoot takedown. Yumashev fights it but they end up in guard.
Yumashev has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Klaus Chugman showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Chugman manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Yumashev on his heels. He'll look to pass Yumashev's guard now, I'm sure.

Chugman tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Yumashev is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Yumashev stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Chugman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Chugman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Filip Yumashev has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Chugman tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Yumashev paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Chugman fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Yumashev, pushing him back against the cage.
Yumashev lands a left hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Filip Yumashev.
I think Chugman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
