The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cartwright fails with the takedown
and Soares counters with a stiff right hand.
Cartwright tries to clinch up but Soares circles away and keeps his distance.
Soares throws a nice looking combination but Cartwright bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Cartwright drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Soares defends it well.
Cartwright tries to close the distance and clinch but Soares swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Soares throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Cartwright fails to land with a series of punches.
Cartwright looks to score with a jab to the body but Soares is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soares doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Soares uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Cartwright.

Cartwright lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Soares lands a left hand that snaps the head of Cartwright backwards.

Soares rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cartwright moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Soares fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cartwright, pushing him back against the cage.
Still in the clinch, Soares scores with a nice short uppercut.
A nice left hand lands by Soares.
Cartwright wants to take the fight to the mat but Soares manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Gilbervan Soares has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Cam Cartwright.

Soares pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Cartwright misses with a body punch
enabling Soares to counter with a crisp jab.

It looks like Soares has been trying to sharpen up his punching technique, as it looks crisper than last time we saw him.

Soares lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Cartwright is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Soares rather than just go for the knockout.
Soares feints a kick and comes over the top with a right hand, followed by a left hook - both land, sending Cartwright crashing to the mat! This one is all over!
