PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cohen Hawthorne (ranked 3240 p4p, 4604 weight class) and Reed Sherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cohen Hawthorne!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Reed Sherman!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Franklyn Lucas and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hawthorne shoots in but Sherman avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Left hook, right uppercut from Hawthorne.
Nice uppercut there from Hawthorne.
Hawthorne misses with a takedown attempt - Sherman sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Hawthorne shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Sherman defends it nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cohen Hawthorne. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hawthorne is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Sherman is controlling him.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Hawthorne has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sherman can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hawthorne wants to stand up but Sherman is controlling him.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hawthorne is on top in guard.

Hawthorne pushing down on Sherman's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Hawthorne is controlling the pace.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Sherman wants to get back to full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Still in half guard, Hawthorne seems content to control.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters, thinking about a standup.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Cohen Hawthorne dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hawthorne closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Hawthorne has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Sherman uses from the top position.

Hawthorne pushes a forearm under Sherman's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Sherman is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

During a confident post fight interview, Cohen Hawthorne thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
