PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Christ (ranked 826 p4p, 366 weight class) and Franz Ramos (ranked 106 p4p, 54 weight class). Franz Ramos will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeff Christ!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franz Ramos!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Dmitry Maklakov and Aleksandr Martynov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A jab from Ramos misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Christ.
Ramos avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Jeff Christ seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Christ lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Christ on the wrong end of a nice hook.

It looks like Jeff Christ has been cut.

and Ramos connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ramos's corner calls for a 1-2. Ramos obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Christ changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ramos looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Christ is keen to just control but Ramos is a slippery customer.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Christ in particular looking to stall.
Christ lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Christ slips a nice elbow through Ramos's hands, connecting with Ramos's forehead.
Christ perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Christ is nestled in close to Ramos, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Christ seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Christ seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ramos for as long as he can get away with.
Christ has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Christ dives in for a single leg takedown but Ramos sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

We've been hearing that Christ has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.
Jeff Christ overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
