PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Marco Del Rey (ranked 4134 p4p, 5591 weight class) and Anton Kongo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Marco Del Rey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Anton Kongo!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Alyssa Summers and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Del Rey looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kongo tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Del Rey shoots in but no luck this time.

Del Rey pushes Kongo up against the cage in a clinch.
Kongo tries for a takedown. No joy.

Kongo ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Kongo no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Del Rey throwing strikes from guard but Kongo blocks nicely.

Del Rey stands and steps away. Kongo gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Del Rey fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kongo sprawls well initially but Del Rey persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Kongo makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Del Rey moves into the clinch.
Kongo has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Del Rey after a bit of a struggle.
Kongo is trying to break the clinch but Del Rey has him pressed against the cage.

Del Rey lands a body shot.
Kongo is working for takedown but Del Rey is calmly controlling the position for now.
Marco Del Rey has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anton Kongo.

Del Rey looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Kongo has picked Del Rey up and slammed him! Del Rey can't keep hold of the triangle and Kongo manages to pass to side control!
Kongo wants to control but Del Rey is keeping him busy.
Kongo tries to stand but Del Rey is controlling his head.
Del Rey sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Kongo stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.

Kongo ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Del Rey misses with a series of wild punches.
Despite the aggression on Kongo's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kongo or perhaps it was just good defense by Del Rey, which made it look bad.

Del Rey gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Kongo stalling in the clinch but Del Rey improves position.
Del Rey keeps control of Kongo as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Kongo misses with a knee strike.
Del Rey scores with a nice hook to the head.

Kongo has Del Rey pressed against the cage, preventing Del Rey from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Del Rey jumps guard.
Del Rey pulls Kongo in close to his closed guard and prevents Kongo from doing any damage or advancing position.
Del Rey has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Del Rey manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Kongo manages to get himself to full guard.

Kongo lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Kongo throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Del Rey manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

Kongo breaks from the clinch.
Del Rey moves out of range of the body kick.
Del Rey tries to score a power double leg takedown but Kongo sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Del Rey somewhat.
Kongo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Del Rey's waist but Del Rey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Kongo off to one side.
Del Rey tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
As Del Rey backs off Kongo throws a huge counter combo but Del Rey manages to avoid it all.
Del Rey fails with a takedown attempt.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Marco Del Rey dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Kongo moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.

Kongo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Kongo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Kongo wants to stand but Del Rey has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Kongo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

As Kongo tries to get set, Del Rey tries to push him back and clinch up but Kongo manages to avoid the attempt.

Del Rey goes for a double leg but Kongo avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Kongo continues to drive forward.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Del Rey bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Del Rey clinches.

And that's the end of the fight!
Marco Del Rey showed his dominance in that final round.
