PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bob Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tre Tanks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Tre Tanks!
The judges for this bout are Mauricio Rocha, Paulo Santos and Thiago Cunha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tanks shoots for a double leg takedown but Johnson sprawls well. He's pushed Tanks's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Tanks's guard.

Johnson drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Johnson jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Tanks has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Johnson can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Tanks is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Tanks has his foot on Johnson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Johnson works his way back into a safe position though.
Tanks can't keep his opponent in guard - Johnson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tanks is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Johnson jumps into side control!

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Johnson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tanks, up you get!
Bob Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Tanks counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Johnson's guard now.
Johnson is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tanks is fighting to break Johnson's control of his arms but Johnson is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Johnson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Tanks defends well.

Tanks thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Johnson manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Tanks wants to improve position but instead he's given up his back.
Tanks staying busy and making it hard for Johnson to control.
Johnson keeps control of the position easily here as Tanks tries to buck him off.
Johnson has the hooks in. Tanks is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

Tanks drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Johnson dives on top into guard.

Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Johnson is staying tight to Tanks's torso, preventing him from escaping.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tanks for as long as he can get away with.
