PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Alexander Frost (ranked 25391 p4p, 4115 weight class) and Richard Vasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Frost comes to the cage accompanied by Texas. Richard Vasquez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alexander Frost!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Richard Vasquez!
The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Elvis Blanc and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vasquez misses with a takedown attempt - Frost sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Frost fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Frost dives in for a single leg takedown but Vasquez sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Frost is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Vasquez to keep the fight standing.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alexander Frost. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Frost manages to break the clinch.
Frost swings away with a body shot that misses

and Vasquez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Frost is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

so Frost counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Vasquez tries to score a power double leg takedown but Frost sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Vasquez somewhat.

Frost has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Frost slaps away a takedown attempt from Vasquez, before circling back to the center of the mat.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

And Vasquez tries to counter it with a takedown but Frost pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Vasquez is trying to break the clinch but Frost has him pressed against the cage.

Vasquez gets control of Frost's arms and successfully pulls guard. Vasquez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Frost throws a big right hand that misses.

Frost postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Vasquez is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Frost, into his guard.

Frost wants to sweep but no luck.
Frost on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Frost tries to get out of the position.
Frost is breathing heavily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vasquez wants to control from the top but Frost keeps moving.

Vasquez showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
Frost wants to get back to his feet but Vasquez is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Vasquez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Frost has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Vasquez has managed to get both his arms back between Frost's legs - danger averted.
Vasquez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Vasquez trying to control but Frost is working from the bottom.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Frost shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Vasquez wants to clinch up but Frost keeps it at a distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vasquez.
Vasquez tries to clinch up.
Vasquez blocks the body kick.
Vasquez wants to clinch.
Richard Vasquez seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Vasquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Frost manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Vasquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Frost shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Vasquez manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Vasquez is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Frost decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Vasquez, up you get!

Frost fails with an attempt to clinch.
Frost misses with a kick to the body.
Vasquez doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Vasquez shoots in and drives through. Frost sprawls well.
Frost looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.

Vasquez closes the distance and clinches.
Vasquez jumps guard but Frost turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Vasquez looks to throw an elbow but misses.
A head punch on the inside from Vasquez fails to land.
Vasquez wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Frost has him pressed against the cage.

Frost shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vasquez but Vasquez pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vasquez unleashes a big counter combination but Frost bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

Frost is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Vasquez's half guard.
Vasquez is trying to maintain the position but Frost is very close to passing his half guard.
Vasquez is pressing down on Frost's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Vasquez has one foot on Frost's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vasquez dives in and grabs Frost's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frost pushes down on Vasquez's head and hops out.
Vasquez fails with the takedown.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Frost motions for Vasquez to come forward. Frost throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Vasquez wants to clinch.
Frost keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Vasquez looks for a takedown but Frost sprawls well.
Frost tries to counter by clinching up but Vasquez breaks away and moves out of range.

Vasquez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Vasquez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Frost counters by clinching up.
Frost stalling the fight.
Frost goes for a takedown attempt but Vasquez pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Vasquez gets caught napping as Frost dives in and scores a takedown. Vasquez manages to retain guard.
Frost is standing up over Vasquez. Vasquez looks to escape but Frost dives into side control.

Vasquez looks to move to half guard but instead Frost has passed into mount! Damn!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Frost is landing with some decent strikes but Vasquez is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Frost tries to control but Vasquez wriggling away.

Frost lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Vasquez is desperately trying to improve his position but Frost has a good base and remains in mount.

Vasquez prevents Frost from taking his back.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Vasquez is squirming around, avoiding Frost's attempts to control the action.

Frost working the ground and pound effectively.
Frost working Vasquez over with strikes here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Vasquez is looking to improve his position but Frost isn't that keen on the idea.
A nice elbow there by Frost.
