Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between KJ Hoodwell (ranked 3254 p4p, 3929 weight class) and Kurou Nishiyama (ranked 333 p4p, 379 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 17 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, KJ Hoodwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kurou Nishiyama!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Steven Brown and Richard Clark.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nishiyama with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
KJ Hoodwell seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hoodwell has closed the distance and engaged Nishiyama in a clinch.
Nishiyama landing knees to the head.
Hoodwell has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Nishiyama's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hoodwell definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Hoodwell has managed to clinch.
Nishiyama lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Nishiyama escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Nishiyama shoots in and bounces Hoodwell off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Nishiyama is standing up over Hoodwell. Hoodwell looks to escape but Nishiyama dives into side control.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hoodwell tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Nishiyama presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Nishiyama takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hoodwell can't escape the position.
Hoodwell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hoodwell tries to get out of the position.
Nishiyama controlling from mount.
Hoodwell working to try and regain half guard.
Hoodwell wants to hold on but Nishiyama pushes him away.
Nishiyama takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nishiyama is landing with some decent strikes but Hoodwell is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Hoodwell is bucking up trying to escape but Nishiyama cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Nishiyama controlling from mount.
Hoodwell is looking to get to half guard.

Hoodwell regains half guard.
Hoodwell is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Nishiyama scores with a couple of nice shots.

Nishiyama takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Nishiyama is controlling the pace.
It looks like Nishiyama might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kurou Nishiyama dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Nishiyama fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hoodwell to the ground. Nishiyama is now in Hoodwell's guard.
Nishiyama is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Hoodwell manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nishiyama manages to get himself to full guard.

Nishiyama lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Hoodwell being controlled here, momentarily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hoodwell working for a triangle but Nishiyama defends it easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Nishiyama content to stall in guard here.
Let's hope that Nishiyama has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Nishiyama stands up from Hoodwell's guard - Nishiyama perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hoodwell takes a push kick to the midsection and stumbles backwards.
Hoodwell closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Hoodwell ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Nishiyama moves away.
Hoodwell throws a right hand that Nishiyama ducks under and follows up with a left that Nishiyama also avoids with ease.
As Hoodwell backs off Nishiyama throws a huge counter combo but Hoodwell manages to avoid it all.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nishiyama fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hoodwell sprawls well initially but Nishiyama persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Hoodwell makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Nishiyama shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Hoodwell's guard.
Nishiyama is fighting to break Hoodwell's control of his arms but Hoodwell is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Hoodwell is working an open guard so Nishiyama takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Nishiyama scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Nishiyama thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hoodwell if he has to take too many more of those.
Hoodwell throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nishiyama.
Hoodwell fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Nishiyama checks it well.

Hoodwell has taken the fight to the clinch.

Nishiyama escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Hoodwell misses with a two punch combination.
Hoodwell throws a head kick but Nishiyama moves out of range.
A nice inside leg kick there by Nishiyama. That's going to slow Hoodwell down.
Kurou Nishiyama seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Hoodwell closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Nishiyama keeps control of Hoodwell as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Nishiyama lands an elbow inside.
Nishiyama digs a right hand into Hoodwell's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Hoodwell's gas tank.
Nishiyama lands a nice knee to the body.
A right hand to the body from Nishiyama.
A short left from Nishiyama.

Nishiyama escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Nishiyama fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Nishiyama has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Hoodwell is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Nishiyama rushes Hoodwell and presses him up against the cage.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Kurou Nishiyama showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

Hoodwell throws out a leg kick but Nishiyama moves out of range and Hoodwell only half commits.
Nishiyama lands a nice leg kick that just misses Hoodwell's sensitive parts.
Whack! Nishiyama lands a heavy head kick that drops Hoodwell. The ref tackles Nishiyama to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Hoodwell was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:12 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Head Kick). Kurou Nishiyama!
