PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Nicholaus Strauss (ranked 413 p4p, 447 weight class) and Norman Boma (ranked 60 p4p, 66 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Boma's choice of entrance music: Drowning Pool - Bodies. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nicholaus Strauss! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of 19 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Norman Boma! The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, John Mangel and Donatello Bradman.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Boma throws a big shot that misses. A little feinted left hand from Strauss on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Boma is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Boma swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Strauss. Strauss moves out of range of the strikes. Boma stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Strauss. A telegraphed right hand from Boma misses the target. Boma misses with a jab, cross combination.
Strauss misses the shot to the body. We've been informed that Boma has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result. Boma connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe. Strauss scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Boma misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Strauss thinks about countering with a body kick. Boma lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Strauss is rocked! Boma scores with a hook to the body. Strauss takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Boma steps in with a hook that catches Strauss right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Boma follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Strauss looks absolutely devastated.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Norman Boma! A less than humble Norman Boma misjudged his post fight interview somewhat and came across a little too arrogant whilst trying to hype up his own abilities.
