PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Caleb Jones (ranked 1929 p4p, 1227 weight class) and Stan Man (ranked 143 p4p, 85 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Stan Man was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Helsinki, Caleb Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 11 - 1, fighting out of London, Stan Man!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Steve Montenegro and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Man uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Jones.
Man walks into a straight right hand from Jones.
Man takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Man tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Man tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Jones is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Man avoids the body shot from Jones.
Jones connects with a looping right hand.
Jones fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Man on the side of the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jones, as that shot connected.
Man keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Jones.
Man drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Jones defends it well.
Jones looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Nice shot lands for Jones.
Caleb Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Man gets a takedown into half guard.
Jones tries to roll over but Man keeps him under control.
Man is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Man looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Jones reaches up to try and control the position but Man seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Jones rolls and tries to escape and now Man has his back!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Man looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.
Man is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Man looking for a guillotine here but Jones defends easily.
Jones stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Man swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Man wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Man trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Caleb Jones will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Man fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Jones sprawls well initially but Man persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Man wants to pass the guard but Jones is defending well.

Man seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Jones lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Jones is pushing down on Man's leg trying to pass to half guard. Man is fighting to maintain full guard but Jones has managed to sneak the leg through.
Jones prevents Man from improving his position.
Jones is trying to control. Man wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Man won't allow Jones to pass to mount.
Man is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.

Jones takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Man wants to get back to full guard.
Man felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.

Man looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Man wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones loads up on a big right hand but Man slips the punch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Man shoots and misses
and Jones counters with a left to the body.
Jones tries to clinch up but Man circles away and keeps his distance.

Jones gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Man to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Man wants to stand but Jones has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Stan Man showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Jones is positioning himself well to prevent Man advancing to mount.

Jones is not content to let Man control the position.

Man wants to work for an arm triangle but Jones is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Jones is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Man scores with a couple of nice shots.
Jones regains full guard. Nicely done.
Jones seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Jones wants to hit a sweep here but Man passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Jones there!

Man swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Jones is now in Man's guard. A big mistake from Man there, giving up the dominant position!

Man looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Jones wants to pass the guard but Man is keeping the position.
Man wants to stand and escape but Jones is having none of it.
Jones advances to half guard.
Jones content to control rather than advance.

Man has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Jones escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Jones!

Man tries to control but Jones manages to take his back.
Jones doesn't have the hooks in and Man manages to turn into his guard.
Man throwing strikes but missing.
Man with a nice head shot there.
Man throws a big right hand that misses.
Man throws a big elbow that misses.
Jones pulls Man in to control the position.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Man scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Man is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Man working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Jones's head.
Man loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Man's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Man drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Jones dives on top into guard.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Man thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Jones tries to free his leg and advance position but Man is retaining full guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Stan Man.
I think Man has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
