And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Josue Souza!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Dean Styles and Steve Montenegro.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Souza clinches with his opponent.
Souza has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Cartwright avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Cartwright misses with the head strike.
Cartwright trying to control the position but instead, Souza has worked for underhooks and has pushed Cartwright into the cage.

Cartwright breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cartwright looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.

Souza goes for a double leg but Cartwright avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Cartwright continues to drive forward.

Cartwright is trying to control. Souza wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Cartwright lands a nice short elbow.

Souza has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Cartwright can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Cartwright accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Cartwright postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Cartwright stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Souza swivels though and keeps the full guard.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Souza clinches up with Cartwright and pushes him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Cartwright.
Souza has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Cartwright seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Souza can turn it around.
Cartwright gets through Souza's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Souza keeps control of Cartwright as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Cartwright tries to stall but Souza uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Cartwright swings wildly with an uppercut but Souza uses good head movement to avoid it.
Souza tries for a takedown. No joy.
Souza drops down looking for an ankle pick but Cartwright pulls his leg out and moves away.

Cartwright leaves Souza with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

and Cartwright counters with a nice right hand that sends Souza toppling to the canvas! Souza scrambles and gets back to his feet - can Cartwright finish him?!
