The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Paul Gruel and Jeff Smith.


The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Lalla tries for a takedown but Penn sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Penn shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Penn was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

We've been hearing good reports from Lalla's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Penn controls the position.

Penn is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Lalla knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Lalla wants to control but Penn postures up.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lalla trying to control the position but Penn manages to sink in the hooks.
Lalla manages to reverse the position and now he's in Penn's guard. Nice work there by Lalla.

Penn has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Penn working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lalla doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lalla manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Penn pulls Lalla in close to prevent any damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Lalla from controlling successfully.
Penn is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Penn looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Penn pulls Lalla in to control the position.
Lalla trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom.
Penn is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Lalla trying to control the position from guard on top but Penn is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Penn is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Penn has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Penn has hold of Lalla's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Lalla manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Lalla tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Penn trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Lalla sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Penn trying to control the action but Lalla is working from the bottom.
Lalla wants to control but Penn is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Lalla is looking to improve his position.
Penn moves into full mount! Lalla won't be happy about that!

Lalla tries to lock up and control but Penn gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Lalla is controlling an arm, preventing Penn from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.
Penn takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Lalla keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Penn is working close to his opponent, looking to work a submission by the looks of things. Oh, he's managed to get a guillotine from mount as his opponent reached up! That looks tiiiiight! Will he tap? YES, he's tapped! Impressive submission by Penn!
