The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McConnell shoots in for a double leg but Gunn sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

McConnell closes the distance and clinches.

It looks like Max Gunn has been cut.
Gunn tries to circle away but McConnell has him pinned against the cage.

McConnell gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Gunn postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! McConnell is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gunn, into his guard.

Gunn has his foot on McConnell 's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. McConnell works his way back into a safe position though.

McConnell decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gunn, up you get!

and Gunn counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Gunn gets tackled into the cage by McConnell . McConnell maintains the clinch.
McConnell jumps guard but Gunn stands there with McConnell around his waist. McConnell gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

It looked like Gunn was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from McConnell .

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
McConnell closes the distance and clinches up with Gunn, looking for a takedown. McConnell pushes Gunn against the cage but Gunn circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

McConnell rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Gunn moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Gunn throws a counter high kick but McConnell was just alert enough to avoid it.

Gunn bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps McConnell 's head backwards.

McConnell throws a wild hook but Gunn just manages to duck under it and - ooooh! McConnell gets nailed by a brutal uppercut which crumples him back against the cage! The referee jumps in - Gunn raises his hands in celebration and walks away!
