PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Henry Python (ranked 2178 p4p, 3877 weight class) and Tim Bird (ranked 282 p4p, 459 weight class). Bird has chosen Dragula - Rob Zombie as his entrance music. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Henry Python!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Tim Bird!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Russell Pearce and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird thuds his right hand into Python's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

It looks like Henry Python has been cut.
Bird scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Bird misses with a body shot.
Python misses with a wild body shot.
Bird misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Bird throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Python thumps Bird with a low kick.
Bird looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Python throws a shot from downtown. Bird moves away and avoids it.
Bird swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Python looks to land a right hand but Bird moved out of range.
Bird misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Python throws a head kick but Bird moves out of range.
Python sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Python swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Bird throws a counter combo.
Bird throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Bird throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and Python connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Bird darts in looking for a takedown but Python gets double underhooks and turns Bird into the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Bird is looking for the big counter here.
Henry Python is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Python lands a right hook to the body.
Python lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Bird circles away quickly and effectively.
Nice straight punches there by Python. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Python.

Python gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Bird is standing up over Python. Python looks to escape but Bird dives into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bird throws an elbow but Python slips to the side and avoids it well.
Python's coaches at House of 1000 Corpses have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Bird wants to control but Python is keeping him busy.

Bird landing a few strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Python wants to get back to his feet.
Bird trying to control the position but Python is working away.

Python parries the strikes from Bird easily there. Bird is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Python to escape.
Bird wants to control but Python is keeping him busy.

Bird is trying to get an arm triangle but Python is defending well.
Python pushes Bird away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Bird gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Python takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Python is trying to get back to his feet.
Bird cracks Python with a big right hand but Python just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.
Python is trying to buck Bird off.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Python throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!
Bird closes the distance and clinches up with Python, looking for a takedown. Bird pushes Python against the cage but Python circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Henry Python has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Bird.
A jab from Bird does it's job there.
A telegraphed right hand from Bird misses the target.
Python throws a looping overhand right but Bird ducks down to avoid it.
Bird tries to clinch up.

Bird throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Bird keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Python displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Bird.
Python is looking to counter punch.
Bird bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Python bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bird's head backwards.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Python avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
Python throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Nice defenses there by Python.
Bird throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
A jab lands there for Python.
A swing and a miss from Python.
Python tries to bum rush Bird with a series of wild strikes but Bird uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Bird throws out a counter right but Python avoids it with no problem.
Bird misses with a body shot.
Python swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tim Bird will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Henry Python's cut.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action.

Python misses with a leg kick.
Python lands a jab.
Bird catches Python with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Bird dodges the punch combination from Python.

Bird throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Python tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Bird is in Python's guard.
Python is wriggling around but Bird manages to pass to half guard.

Bird's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Tim Bird has got the better of the ground game so far.
Bird lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Python is trying to stand back up but Bird is controlling him
Bird moves into full mount! Python won't be happy about that!
Python is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Bird landing strikes from the mount.

Python is trying to stand.

Bird is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Python is forced to tap! Great finish!

During a confident post fight interview, Tim Bird thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
