Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paavo Talvela (ranked 12 p4p, 100 weight class) and Spider Monkey (ranked 2 p4p, 12 weight class). Talvela comes to the cage accompanied by For Heavy Metal we will die!. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 18 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Spider Monkey!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monkey throws out a loose jab but Talvela uses good head movement to avoid it.
Monkey works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Talvela steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Monkey.
Talvela swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Talvela throws a nice inside leg kick.
Spider Monkey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Talvela counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Monkey thinking.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monkey throws a leg kick but Talvela sees it coming and moves out of range.
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Monkey lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Talvela has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Talvela and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.

Monkey tests Talvela's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Monkey moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

and Talvela counters with a good low kick that Monkey was not able to check.

Talvela turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.

Talvela is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Monkey.

Monkey throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Talvela sees it coming and avoids it easily.

enabling Talvela to counter with a crisp jab.
Talvela loads up on a big right hand but Monkey slips the punch.
Spider Monkey is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Monkey clinches up with Talvela and pushes him back against the cage.

Talvela gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Talvela thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Monkey keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.

Talvela is trying to control the action in half guard but Monkey is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Monkey wants to control but Talvela is keeping busy.
Monkey works his way to full guard. Good work.
Talvela controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.
Talvela throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Talvela's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Monkey misses with a looping right.
Talvela missing with a left hand there. Monkey was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Monkey closes the distance and pushes Talvela back into the cage.

Monkey ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Monkey no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monkey has Talvela pulled in close to control his posture.

Talvela postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Monkey pulls Talvela in close to his closed guard and prevents Talvela from doing any damage or advancing position.

Talvela postures up in Monkey's guard and throws a big left but Monkey blocks it.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Talvela throws a jab but it's blocked by Monkey.
Monkey feints and then cracks Talvela's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Talvela down.

A slow jab from Talvela misses its intended target.
Monkey looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Talvela appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.
Good exchange - Monkey coming out on top.
Monkey misses with a left hand
and Talvela counters with a left and a right that stings Monkey.

Talvela swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Talvela displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Monkey throws out the jab.

Talvela shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Monkey eats them both and turns towards Talvela to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Monkey fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Talvela has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
