The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Padilha misses with a hook to the body
and Mesquita counters with a stiff right hand.
Mesquita takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Mesquita misses with a jab to the body
and Padilha counters with a nice uppercut.
Mesquita scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.

Mesquita throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Padilha tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mesquita is in Padilha's guard.
Mesquita prevents Padilha from getting back to his feet.
Mesquita stands up over Padilha, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Padilha is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Mesquita is controlling him.
Mesquita passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Mesquita moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Mesquita seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Padilha for as long as he can get away with.
Padilha is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Mesquita is controlling him well.

Mesquita has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Padilha is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Mesquita yanks on the arm and Padilha is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Mesquita.
