The fighters connect hands in the middle of the mat and we are under way.

MacGowan changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. McDonald looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

MacGowan tries for a kimura but McDonald is defending well.
MacGowan tries to move to mount but McDonald blocks the move with his legs.

MacGowan looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
McDonald tries to bench press MacGowan off him but MacGowan keeps the position.

MacGowan working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

MacGowan wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by McDonald, who protects the arm well.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
MacGowan wants to lay and pray for a moment but McDonald keeps working.
We've been hearing good reports from McDonald's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

MacGowan goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McDonald has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for MacGowan but great work by McDonald.

McDonald is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because MacGowan is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

My spies in Ground Zero Workout Gym inform me that MacGowan has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

MacGowan is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

MacGowan is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McDonald is just riding it out for now. MacGowan eventually gives up the hold.

MacGowan in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. McDonald tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from MacGowan!
