The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soares rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Romero moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Romero misses with a right hand
and Soares counters with a straight right hand.
Romero avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Romero is looking to counter punch.
Soares shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Romero defends it nicely.
Romero misses with a straight left.
Soares shoots in but no luck this time.
We've been informed that Soares has been sparring a lot of Muay Thai in the buildup to this fight so let's see if that has an impact on the result.
Romero throws an off balance right hand
and Soares counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Romero throws a hook but Soares blocks it.
Soares fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Romero works the jab nicely.
Soares tries to close the distance and clinch up but Romero swats him away and circles back towards the center.
We've been told by Romero 's head coaches at 23.5 Hour Fitness that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Soares throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Soares closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rock Romero seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fight stays on the outside here - Soares looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
