PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joaquin Correa (ranked 3314 p4p, 5287 weight class) and Amr Zeineldin (ranked 121 p4p, 199 weight class). Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Joaquin Correa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Amr Zeineldin!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zeineldin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Correa defends well and Zeineldin ends up having to push Correa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Correa appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Zeineldin moves into the clinch.
Correa tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Correa drops down looking for an ankle pick but Zeineldin pulls his leg out and moves away.

Zeineldin has managed to clinch.

Zeineldin escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Correa fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zeineldin sprawls well initially but Correa persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Zeineldin kicks off Correa and gets to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zeineldin tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Correa defends well and Zeineldin ends up having to push Correa into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Zeineldin fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Correa to the ground. Zeineldin is now in Correa's guard.

Correa utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Zeineldin trying to control but Correa is working from the bottom.
Correa is controlling Zeineldin's posture.

Zeineldin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Correa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Zeineldin shoots in but Correa avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Joaquin Correa has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Amr Zeineldin.

Zeineldin dives in and scores a takedown into Correa's guard.
Correa might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Zeineldin looks winded!
Zeineldin wanted to stand there but Correa had control of the position.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Correa is on top in guard.

Correa gets to his feet - Zeineldin follows without any prompting.

Zeineldin shoots in and gets a takedown into Correa's guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Correa manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
Correa drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Zeineldin gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Correa tries to pull guard but Zeineldin won't allow it.
Correa lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Zeineldin or not.

Correa is fighting off a takedown attempt but Zeineldin is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Correa to the mat. Correa regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Correa scrambles and gets back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Correa closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zeineldin did well to prevent Correa getting side control.
Correa is taking a breather. Zeineldin says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Zeineldin is refusing to be controlled, as Correa sits in half guard.

Correa gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Correa.

Zeineldin instigates a clinch.
Correa is trying to push Zeineldin away but Zeineldin has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Zeineldin manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Correa trying to control the position from guard on top but Zeineldin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Zeineldin can do anything to dispel that myth.
Zeineldin trying to keep a closed guard but Correa is proving a slippery customer.

Correa wants to control from the top but Zeineldin keeps moving.

Correa stands up from Zeineldin's guard - Correa perhaps looking for a knockout.

Correa clinches up with Zeineldin and pushes him back against the cage.
Zeineldin wants to get back to striking at distance but Correa won't allow it.

Correa has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Zeineldin uses from the top position.

Correa striking off his back but it's not causing Zeineldin any problems.

Zeineldin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Correa has his feet on Zeineldin's thighs here. He's pushed Zeineldin off and worked for a very quick armbar from the bottom! He's flipped onto his stomach and he's cranking hard on the arm! Zeineldin screams in pain and taps out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 7:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joaquin Correa!
Joaquin Correa decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
