Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Donovan Sharpe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Samuel Jones!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones scores with a body shot.
Sharpe shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Sharpe tries to clinch but Jones moves out of range.
Sharpe shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Jones but Jones pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Jones doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Jones throws a right and a left that Sharpe avoids nicely.
A little feinted left hand from Sharpe on the counter but he doesn't commit to it.
Jones throws a body shot but no joy.
Sharpe looks to score with a jab to the body but Jones is just out of range.
Jones swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.
A looping hook to the body misses from Jones. Sharpe does a little dance to reset his feet.
Sharpe takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Jones stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Jones wants it to stay on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Donovan Sharpe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sharpe tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Jones manages to circle out of the way.

Sharpe gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Sharpe has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Jones after a bit of a struggle.

Jones tries to throw a body punch but Sharpe avoids it by throwing Jones back against the cage.
Sharpe is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jones pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Jones breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Jones is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Sharpe rather than just go for the knockout.

Jones tries to work over Sharpe's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Jones is pressed up against the cage. Sharpe has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Jones down to the mat. Jones avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Sharpe looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Jones!

Jones jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Jones lands with a good body shot.
Samuel Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sharpe doesn't manage to clinch there - Jones circles away.

Sharpe throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Jones tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Sharpe is in Jones's guard.
Jones told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Sharpe looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sharpe, up you get!

Sharpe moves into range and clinches up with Jones.
Sharpe is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Jones gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Sharpe is trying to drag Jones to the mat but Jones just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Jones tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
I was talking to Sharpe's coach per-fight and he was telling me that they'd been working on the clinch in the runup to this fight.
Jones scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Sharpe tries to score a body lock takedown but Jones shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Jones is looking to stand up but Sharpe isn't so interested in that idea.

Jones pulls Sharpe in to control the position.
Sharpe throws a big elbow that misses.
Jones keeping moving, preventing Sharpe from controlling successfully.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.

Jones wants to control from the top but Sharpe keeps moving.

Jones would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Jones is fighting to break Sharpe's control of his arms but Sharpe is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Sharpe looking to hit a scissor sweep but Jones is one step ahead there.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Sharpe keeping moving, preventing Jones from controlling successfully.
Jones postures up.
Sharpe wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Sharpe closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Jones has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Jones takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Sharpe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Jones is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Sharpe tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones is looking for a sweep.
Sharpe looking to control but instead Jones has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.

Sharpe looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jones with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Sharpe wants to lay and pray for a moment but Jones keeps working.
Sharpe is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Sharpe lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sharpe looks to land a strike but Jones avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Sharpe looking to sit in guard and control but Jones gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jones decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sharpe, up you get!

Jones fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Sharpe on the side of the head.
Samuel Jones is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Sharpe tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jones swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Jones! But no joy.
Jones misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Sharpe.
Jones throws a looping overhand right but Sharpe ducks down to avoid it.
BOOM! Jones lands a beautiful left hook that drops Sharpe. Sharpe tries to recover but Jones is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Sharpe lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Samuel Jones!
Samuel Jones decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
