PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Kyle McKenna (ranked 5077 p4p, 24834 weight class) and Outer Haven (ranked 534 p4p, 599 weight class). Outer Haven will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kyle McKenna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Outer Haven!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McKenna clinches up against the cage.

McKenna breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Haven misses with the body kick

and McKenna counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
McKenna not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
McKenna wants to control from the top but Haven keeps moving.
McKenna is looking to stand up but Haven won't let him.
Haven is pulling down on McKenna's head. It's preventing any offense from McKenna, at least for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McKenna engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

McKenna lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
McKenna tries to free his leg and advance position but Haven is retaining full guard.
McKenna wants to get up but he can't break Haven's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
McKenna goes for a double leg but Haven avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Haven continues to drive forward.
McKenna is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Haven gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from McKenna.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kyle McKenna. That's going to take a lot out of him.
McKenna will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Haven up against the cage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
McKenna tries for a takedown. No joy.
McKenna jumps guard but Haven stands there with McKenna around his waist. McKenna gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
McKenna looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
McKenna tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
McKenna prevents Haven from breaking the clinch.
McKenna keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Haven's efforts to push away.

McKenna tries to pull guard but Haven won't allow it.
Haven tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. McKenna just stands there and leans against the cage.
Haven gets underhooks to prevent McKenna's takedown attempt.
Haven prevents the takedown attempt.
McKenna is looking to take this one to the mat.
McKenna is breathing heavily.
Haven wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

McKenna lands a body punch in the clinch.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Haven is trying to force a seperation but McKenna has the dominant position.
Haven stops a takedown attempt from McKenna.
Haven misses with a knee strike.
Haven letting McKenna take a breather here.
McKenna wants to take the fight to the mat but Haven manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

McKenna has Haven pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. McKenna pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Haven tumbling to the mat - McKenna dives into Haven's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Haven moves into the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from McKenna fails to land.
McKenna has Haven pressed against the cage, preventing Haven from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
McKenna tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

McKenna manages to pull guard.
McKenna is pulling down on Haven's head to control his posture.
Haven really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McKenna. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

McKenna working for submissions but it's allowed Haven to get to half guard.

McKenna is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Haven can do to turn this around?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Haven is trying to control the action in half guard but McKenna is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Haven enables McKenna to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Haven manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Haven wants to control the position but McKenna says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

McKenna stops Haven from getting back to his feet.

Haven is staying active underneath McKenna, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
It looks like McKenna is going to stand back up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

McKenna fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Haven sprawls well initially but McKenna persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Haven is controlling McKenna's trapped leg to prevent McKenna from advancing to side control.

Haven is staying active underneath McKenna, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Haven kicks off McKenna and gets to his feet.

Haven wants to clinch up but McKenna keeps it at a distance.
McKenna wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

McKenna closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - McKenna lands in his opponent's guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kyle McKenna will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

McKenna ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. McKenna no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Haven wants to stand and escape but instead McKenna has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Haven avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
McKenna stays in close to Haven's body and controls the position.

McKenna is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Haven is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Haven has escaped and now he's on top!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Haven prevents McKenna from getting back to his feet.
Outer Haven has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kyle McKenna is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Haven missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for McKenna, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
