PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dawindi Buktot (ranked 24145 p4p, 24103 weight class) and Walay Buut (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Walay Buut told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 35 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dawindi Buktot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 32 - 30 - 4, fighting out of Las Vegas, Walay Buut!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Cecil Peabody and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.
Buktot shoots in and drives through. Buut sprawls well.

Buut fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Buktot sprawls well initially but Buut persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Buut is thwarting Buktot's attempts to control the position.
Buktot is trying to control but Buut passes into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
You can see the frustration on Buktot's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Buut is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Buktot's shoulder. That is not cool.
Buktot tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Buut working the ground and pound but Buktot is defending the strikes.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Buktot tries to roll over but Buut keeps him under control.
Buktot keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Buut is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Buktot reverses the position - he's now on top in Buut's guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Buut looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Buktot's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Buktot's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Buut will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Dawindi Buktot has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Walay Buut.

Buut has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Buut is fighting to break Buktot's control of his arms but Buktot is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Buut works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Buut takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Buut lands with a punch from half guard.
Buut content to control rather than advance.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Buktot with a lazy takedown attempt
and Buut counters with a good low kick that Buktot was not able to check.
Buut will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Buktot utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Buut thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Buut tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Buut wants to control the pace but Buktot is squirming around nicely.
Buut controlling the position easily from mount.

Buktot manages to regain half guard whilst avoiding the strikes.
Buut controlling the pace.
Buut is thwarting Buktot's attempts to control the position.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Buktot is doing well to control the position and prevent Buut from advancing to side control.
Buut seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dawindi Buktot has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Walay Buut is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Well Buut has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
