Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Mauricio Rocha and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas throws a nice outside leg kick.
Nice defenses there by Thomas .
Thomas has managed to clinch.
Thomas lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Smithers swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Thomas doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Smithers breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Smithers's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Thomas connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Smithers scrambles back to his feet.
Smithers lands a left and a right that send Thomas crashing to the mat, dazed. Smithers thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like Derrick Thomas has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
A jab lands there for Thomas .
Smithers throws a hook to the side of Thomas 's head but Thomas sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Smithers lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Thomas looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Thomas misses with a kick to the body.
Smithers swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Thomas fails in his attempt to clinch.
Smithers lands a nice hook to Thomas 's body. Thomas takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
Smithers lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Thomas gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Smithers.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Thomas - that will leave a mark!
Smithers misses with a hook to the body
and Smithers takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
It looks like Carlton Smithers has been cut.
Smithers looks to score with a jab to the body but Thomas is just out of range.
Thomas misses the shot to the body.
Smithers connects with a body shot.
Smithers throws out a loose jab but Thomas uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smithers throws a right hand that misses
and Thomas counters with a thumping low kick.
Smithers just misses with a punch to the body.
Smithers swings for the body but Thomas moves out of range.
Thomas appears to be looking for a big counter.
Thomas throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Thomas throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smithers swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Thomas is looking for a counter combo.
Thomas closes the distance and clinches.

Smithers has a couple of punches blocked by Thomas .
Thomas lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Smithers or not.
Smithers wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Thomas has him pressed against the cage.
Smithers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Smithers staying out of range there.
Smithers throws a looping overhand right but Thomas ducks down to avoid it.
Thomas uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Smithers.
Thomas cracks Smithers with an open hand slap.
Smithers fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Smithers jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Thomas lands a slapping body shot.
Thomas tries to clinch up
enabling Smithers to counter with a crisp jab.
Carlton Smithers seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smithers misses the jab.
Oooooh!!! Smithers has knocked Thomas down with a huge combo! Smithers steps away and waves a wobbly Thomas back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!
Thomas closes the distance and clinches.
Thomas lands a hook to the side of the head.
Smithers prevents a body shot from Thomas .
A short body shot lands from Thomas as the two fighters clinch.
Smithers tries a body shot but Thomas blocks it.
Thomas lands a shoulder strike.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Thomas blocks an uppercut.
Smithers pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Thomas jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Thomas finds Smithers's off switch, with a big overhand right that connects perfectly to the side of the head! Smithers flops back against the cage, eyes gazing into the distance. Thomas lands an unnecessary shot before the referee has time to step in and end the fight. Brutal stuff but I'm sure Smithers will be OK.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Derrick Thomas !
A relieved looking Derrick Thomas thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
