This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the super heavyweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of New York, with a TWGC record of 2 wins and 3 losses; Alexander Mesquita! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, with a TWGC record of 3 wins and 32 losses; Tan Zan!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.
The official calls the fighters to the middle and the contest is under way.
Mesquita bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Score +4 for clean takedown past guard: Mesquita (4) vs (0) Zan
Mesquita is looking to take a break and control but Zan is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Zan tries to bench press Mesquita off him but Mesquita keeps the position.
Mesquita tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Mesquita has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Zan is looking to improve his position but Mesquita isn't that keen on the idea.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mesquita fails to take his opponent's back.
Zan has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Zan is trying desperately to improve position.
Mesquita takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Zan is squirming around, avoiding Mesquita's attempts to control the action.

Mesquita has hold of Zan's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Zan manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Mesquita can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zan is looking to escape.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Mesquita wants to finish this one by submission but Zan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Mesquita.
Mesquita fails to move to back control.
Mesquita controlling the pace for now.
Zan is trying desperately to improve position.

Mesquita working for a submission but Zan is keeping him at bay.
Mesquita working for a guillotine from mount but Zan is in no mood to give up.
Zan is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Mesquita is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zan shrugs it off.
Mesquita can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Zan is looking to escape.
Zan is trying to escape the mount.

Zan is trying to break free.
Zan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mesquita. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Mesquita working from the back looking to end the fight with a rear naked choke. Zan is doing well to defend. Mesquita seems to have got his hand under the chin though and he's sunk the choke in! Zan is forced to tap and this one is over!
