PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Kelly Wells (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aychtoo Ovechkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aychtoo Ovechkin!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Vladimir Khabensky and Ivan Kurochkin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ovechkin shoots for a takedown but Wells saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Ovechkin drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Wells wants to sweep here but Ovechkin controlling him for the moment.
Ovechkin wants to control from the top but Wells keeps moving.

Ovechkin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Wells works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ovechkin has gone for a leg lock! Wells slips out almost immediately though and dives into Ovechkin's guard.

Wellsis looking to pass into half guard but Ovechkin pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ovechkin is in guard.

Wells looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Ovechkin trying to control the position from guard on top but Wells is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Wells knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Ovechkin on the ground.

Ovechkin drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wells dives on top into guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ovechkin keeping moving, preventing Wells from controlling successfully.
Wells controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ovechkin has his foot on Wells's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wells works his way back into a safe position though.

Ovechkin had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Wells is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ovechkin Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Wells's back instead.
Wells manages to reverse the position and now he's in Ovechkin's guard. Nice work there by Wells.

Ovechkin looking for subs off his back but Wells has passed one foot through into half guard.

Wells frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Ovechkin tries to hold on but Wells pushes him away.
Wells takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Ovechkin slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Wells not doing much here.
Wells seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Ovechkin is trying to maintain the position but Wells is very close to passing his half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Aychtoo Ovechkin will probably get the nod.
That's time! Wells's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Ovechkin closes this distance looking for a takedown but Wells circles away.
Ovechkin throws a right and a left that Wells avoids nicely.
Ovechkin thuds his shin into the meat of Wells's side.
Wells lands a jab-cross combination.

Ovechkin gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Ovechkin tries for a takedown but Wells manages to get underhooks.
Wells is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Ovechkin tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Kelly Wells has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aychtoo Ovechkin.
Ovechkin is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Wells gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Ovechkin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wells is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Wells wants to break free but Ovechkin has control.
Ovechkin prevents Wells from breaking the clinch.
Ovechkin tries a body shot but Wells blocks it.
Ovechkin is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Wells lands a body punch - he's looking to wear down Ovechkin.

Ovechkin is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Ovechkin has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Wells is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
A frustrated look appears on Wells's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Wells can't break the clinch.

Wells escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Wells wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Wells lands a head shot.
Wells cracks Ovechkin with a right hand to the side of the head.
It's a brutal combination of punches from Wells! Ovechkin is backing up but he can't get away as Wells lands with one final shot to the jaw that drops Ovechkin and ends the fight. Great knockout.
