The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Legrand defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gurgel.
Legrand is looking for a counter combo.
Gurgel shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Legrand pinned against the cage. Legrand gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
It looked like Legrand was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Legrand slips under a jab.
Fabio Gurgel seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gurgel throws an overhand right that lands on Legrand's shoulder, as Legrand tries to avoid the shot.
Legrand quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.
Legrand throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
We've been hearing reports that Legrand has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.

Gurgel tries for a takedown but Legrand sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Legrand is trying to stick to Gurgel's back but Gurgel is turning into Legrand. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Legrand's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Gurgel.
Gurgel stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Legrand swivels though and keeps the full guard.
