Hogg is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Styx - Renegade. Ghost Chai is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chai lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Chai.

It looks like Johnny Hogg has been cut.
Hogg ducks under a wild hook from Chai.
Ghost Chai seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chai scores with a shot to the body.

Hogg looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Chai!
Chai is trying to improve his position.
Hogg lands an elbow.
Hogg working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hogg throws a strike aimed at the side of Chai's head but Chai avoids it well.

In the pre-fight buildup videos we saw Hogg working his ground and pound in the gym. He isn't landing a great percentage of his ground strikes so far though.
Hogg wants to take a breather but Chai is having none of it.

Hogg has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hogg is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chai defends it well.

Hogg wants to control but Chai is keeping him busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Hogg working over Chai with some ground and pound. Chai looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Chai is holding on to half guard well.
Chai's coaches at Master Chai's Dojo have been working on his defensive grappling in preparation for this fight so let's see if he can get out of this tricky position.
Chai is not content to let Hogg control the position.

Chai has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hogg is working away from the top position though.
Hogg wants to control but Chai is keeping him busy.

Hogg wants to lay and pray for a moment but Chai keeps working.

Hogg wants to work for an arm triangle but Chai is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Hogg thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chai's head.
Chai won't allow Hogg to pass to mount.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Chai throws a right hand that misses
and Hogg counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Hogg shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Chai as he avoids it easily.

Chai gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Hogg missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Hogg throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Chai works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Hogg postures up.
Hogg trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hogg throws an elbow that misses. Chai uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hogg's guard. Nice move by Chai!

Hogg is looking for a triangle but Chai pushes his legs off easily.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Hogg has an active guard here but Chai has managed to pass into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hogg is looking to improve his position.

Chai closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
A punch combination from Chai misses.
Hogg takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Hogg shoots in for a takedown but Chai shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Chai counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Hogg thinking.
Ghost Chai has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johnny Hogg.

Chai lands a big right hand that sends Hogg crashing to the mat! Chai stays standing though and waves Hogg back to his feet!

Hogg shoots in for a takedown but Chai shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

and Chai counters with a big right hand! Oh Hogg is in trouble here! Chai follows up with more strikes and that's it! The ref has stopped it!
