PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nick Rivers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mickey Davis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Davis has chosen Deftones - Beware as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Nick Rivers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Mickey Davis!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivers is looking to land body kicks.
Rivers scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Davis throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Rivers's waist but Rivers gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Davis off to one side.
Davis slips a jab and a cross from Rivers.
Davis misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Rivers throws a sloppy head kick and Davis moves out of range easily.
Davis will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Nick Rivers has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mickey Davis.

Rivers closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Davis tries to improve position but can't.

Rivers is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Davis has escaped the position, nice work there.

Davis shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rivers's guard.

Rivers tries to hold on but Davis pushes him away.

Rivers is looking to improve his position but Davis isn't that keen on the idea.
Rivers is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Davis looking to control but Rivers is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Davis fails to take his opponent's back.
Davis has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Rivers's face.

Davis is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Davis drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Davis stands up and beckons Rivers to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!

Rivers feints and as Davis raises his hands in defense, Rivers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Davis is looking for a triangle but Rivers pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Rivers tries to stand but Davis is controlling from the bottom.

Rivers slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Davis scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Davis gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Davis had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Rivers is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Davis Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Rivers's back instead.

Davis is controlling the position but Rivers somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.

Davis is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rivers defends it well.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Rivers is on top in guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Rivers fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Davis sprawls well initially but Rivers persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Nick Rivers will probably get the nod.

Rivers decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Davis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Rivers is working away from the top position though.

Davis is staying active underneath Rivers, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Davis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rivers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
