PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luke Williams (ranked 6127 p4p, 24970 weight class) and John James (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Luke Williams has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Luke Williams seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Luke Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John James!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Trevor Gratis and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling each other endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.

Williams closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming James to the mat! James manages to get full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams trying to control the position from guard on top but James is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Williams stacks James on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Williams!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
James looks to move to half guard but instead Williams has passed into mount! Damn!
Williams can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as James is looking to escape.

James is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
James is trying to escape the mount.
Williams wants to control the pace but James is squirming around nicely.

Williams prevents James from getting the reversal.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Williams is defended easily by James.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

James looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Williams makes his way to full guard, as James worked for a kimura.
James is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

James looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Williams has picked James up and slammed him! James can't keep hold of the triangle and Williams manages to pass to side control!

Williams wants to control but James is keeping him busy.

James is looking for a sweep.
Williams is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that James can do to turn this around?
James is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Williams gets to mount! James was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if James can do anything to dispel that myth.

Williams tries to control but James wriggling away.
Williams controlling the position easily from mount.
James is trying to reverse the position but instead Williams has taken his back - oops!
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Luke Williams dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare each other down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Williams looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
A little jabbing left from James on the counter but it doesn't find it's target.

James drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Williams scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Williams closes this distance looking for a takedown but James circles away.
James with the counter takedown but Williams avoids it easily.

James shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. James showed some decent athleticism there.

James seems to be looking for submissions.

James is working for a kimura but Williams is defending it quite comfortably.

James is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Williams defends it well.
Williams tries to kick James off but James keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

James is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

James is working for a kimura but Williams is defending it quite comfortably.
Luke Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Williams has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but James is on him like a limpet, forcing Williams back against the cage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Williams jumps into guard, dragging James to the mat.

James drops back, looking for a kneebar! Williams looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Williams looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Williams!

Williams trying to control the action but James is working from the bottom.

James tries to improve position but can't.
James sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

James looking for submissions off his back.

And that's the end of the fight!
Luke Williams showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Williams, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
