PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between InSaen Chai (ranked 1662 p4p, 1220 weight class) and Aslan Krabutov (ranked 273 p4p, 194 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, InSaen Chai!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Aslan Krabutov!
The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Konstantin Menshow.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chai throws a quick inside leg kick.
Krabutov takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Chai throws a right and a left that both miss.
Krabutov changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Krabutov keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Chai.
Chai throws a head kick that misses.

Krabutov shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Chai but Chai pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Chai goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

It looks like Aslan Krabutov has been cut.
Chai misses with an uppercut. Krabutov saw that one coming.
Krabutov with the counter takedown but Chai avoids it easily.
Chai fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Chai connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Krabutov momentarily.

Krabutov shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Chai sprawls well. Chai wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Krabutov gets slowly back to his feet.

We've been told by Chai's head coaches at Shinobi Martial Arts & Ninjutsu that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Krabutov throws a hook to the side of Chai's head but Chai sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
It looked like Chai wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Chai smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Krabutov darts in looking for a takedown but Chai gets double underhooks and turns Krabutov into the cage.
Krabutov throws a body shot but no joy.
Chai swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Krabutov tries to move into range but Chai moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
Chai lunges at Krabutov with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Krabutov's hand.
Krabutov throws a body punch but Chai moves out of range.

Chai scores with a jab to the jaw.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Chai, as that shot connected.
Krabutov slips a straight right by Chai.
Krabutov drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Chai defends it well.
Chai lands a jab to the nose.

Chai throws a jab but it's blocked by Krabutov.
Chai's jab looks to have found its range, popping Krabutov under the eye.
A slow jab from Chai misses its intended target.
Chai cracks Krabutov with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Krabutov takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Chai throws a shot from downtown. Krabutov moves away and avoids it.

The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Krabutov goes for a double leg but Chai avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Chai continues to drive forward.
Chai will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Krabutov changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chai tries to avoid it but Krabutov manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chai to the ground. Chai escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
It looked like Chai was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

InSaen Chai overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Krabutov's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Chai wants to stand but Krabutov is controlling the position.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Chai, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
