PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Spinning Fire (ranked 2117 p4p, 2325 weight class) and Rutger Petrov (ranked 255 p4p, 287 weight class). The key to victory for Spinning Fire has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Spinning Fire!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rutger Petrov !
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, James Ackerman and Chris Edwards.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Petrov fails with the takedown.
Fire tries to counter with a takedown but Petrov is quick to defend against it.

Petrov dives in and scores a takedown into Fire's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Petrov has gone for a leg lock! Fire slips out almost immediately though and dives into Petrov 's guard.

Fire postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fire looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Petrov working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Fire.

Petrov has his foot on Fire's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Fire works his way back into a safe position though.

Fire lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Fire is in a tricky position. We've heard reports from his gym mates at that he's been drilling escapes, so let's see if he can get back to his feet.
Fire lands a couple of digs.
Fire cracks Petrov with a solid left hand.
Fire wants to control from the top but Petrov keeps moving.
Fire looking to sit in guard and control but Petrov gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Fire can't keep his opponent in guard - Petrov advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Petrov looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Fire wants to improve his position but Petrov is controlling well.

Petrov wants to work for an arm triangle but Fire is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Petrov is looking for a kimura but Fire is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Petrov to get the leverage.

Fire is defending against the submission attempts here by Petrov .

Petrov is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Fire is trying to control but can't.
Fire moves into full guard.
Fire has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Petrov drops back, looking for a kneebar! Fire looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Fire looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Fire!


That's four minutes gone in the round.
Fire in side control lands a decent elbow.
Fire scoring with punches and elbows.
Fire lands an elbow.
Petrov is looking for a sweep.
Fire works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Petrov tries to bench press Fire off him but Fire keeps the position.
Fire connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Petrov some visible discomfort.
Fire is chipping away with strikes.
Fire creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Fire lands an elbow.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fire is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Petrov 's shoulder. That is not cool.
Petrov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Fire wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Spinning Fire dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fire has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Fire there as he acknowledges the shot.

Fire drops Petrov with a big left hand and mounts him. Petrov is in big trouble!

Petrov is rocked!

It looks like Rutger Petrov has been cut.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Fire prevents Petrov from getting the reversal.
Petrov is still in real trouble! Can Fire finish him?
Fire postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Petrov bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Fire and the fight is over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Spinning Fire!
