PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Klaus Manfred (ranked 5571 p4p, 24380 weight class) and Justice McManus (ranked 620 p4p, 645 weight class). McManus has chosen Pat Murphy of the Irish Brigade as his entrance music. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Klaus Manfred!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Justice McManus!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McManus moves out of range of the strikes.
Klaus Manfred seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Manfred swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and McManus counters with a three punch combo that has Manfred backing up. Manfred nods at McManus to acknowledge the strikes.
Manfred jabbing away but nothing is landing.

Manfred tests McManus's chin there with a solid looking shot.

and McManus counters with a series of strikes. Manfred will be more careful next time no doubt.

McManus manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Manfred looks to land a right hand but McManus moved out of range.
McManus uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Manfred.
McManus unleashes a big counter combination but Manfred bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.

McManus is working to avoid the ground and pound but Manfred connects with a decent elbow.

Manfred content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

McManus is pushing Manfred's head away, looking to escape. Manfred manages to hold on to the position though.
Manfred is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt McManus will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

That was a close round but I would say that Klaus Manfred will probably get the nod.

Manfred fakes high and swings low for a body shot but McManus manages to avoid it.

Manfred distracts McManus with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Manfred throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McManus works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
McManus wants to stand and escape but Manfred is having none of it.
Manfred sitting in guard here, content to control.
McManus avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

McManus pushes Manfred off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Manfred throws a shot from downtown. McManus moves away and avoids it.
McManus lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
McManus avoids the body shot from Manfred.
McManus plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
McManus keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
We've been informed that McManus has been working hard on his conditioning in the buildup to the fight.

Manfred throws a leg kick
enabling McManus to counter with a crisp jab.
Manfred throws a looping overhand right but McManus ducks down to avoid it.
Manfred just misses with a punch to the body.
As Manfred backs off McManus throws a huge counter combo but Manfred manages to avoid it all.

McManus gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

McManus manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Manfred misses with a straight left.
McManus lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Manfred throws a leg kick
and McManus counters with a stiff right hand.
McManus rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Manfred moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Manfred darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Manfred is controlling the pace.
McManus keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Manfred not doing much here.
Manfred has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Manfred looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks McManus with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Justice McManus showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Manfred decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
McManus is trying to escape back to his feet but Manfred uses the scramble to pass into side control.
Klaus Manfred overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
McManus parries the strikes from Manfred easily there. Manfred is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable McManus to escape.
McManus pushes Manfred away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Manfred gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
McManus is not content to let Manfred control the position.
Manfred landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
McManus takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Manfred is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
McManus is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Manfred has just dragged him back down to the mat.

McManus wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Manfred scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at McManus to see if he's OK.
Manfred lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear McManus down.

Manfred wants to control but McManus is keeping him busy.

McManus bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!

Manfred manages to get an easy takedown there - catching McManus on his heels. He'll look to pass McManus's guard now, I'm sure.

Manfred seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down McManus for as long as he can get away with.

McManus is still in real trouble! Can Manfred finish him?

Manfred arches his back and unloads with a massive left and a right! McManus's eyes roll back into his head, he's out cold! The ref dives in to stop the fight - wow, they were hard shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:29 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Klaus Manfred!
A very excited looking Klaus Manfred made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
