PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Isopaa Mfer (ranked 1185 p4p, 1051 weight class) and Roman Ship (ranked 72 p4p, 64 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Isopaa Mfer!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 29 - 2, fighting out of London, Roman Ship!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ship closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Mfer quickly recovers to half guard.
Ship moves into full mount! Mfer won't be happy about that!

Ship jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Mfer is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Mfer and Ship has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Ship working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Ship wants to control but Mfer is keeping him busy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mfer is looking to reverse the position.

Ship tries for a kimura but Mfer is defending well.

Ship swings around for an armbar but Mfer sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Ship's guard.
Mfer not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ship lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mfer can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ship controls the pace.
Ship trying to control the position from guard on top but Mfer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mfer keeping full guard, as Ship tries to pass.
Mfer has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Mfer looking to hit a scissor sweep but Ship is one step ahead there.

Ship thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ship won't allow Mfer to sweep him here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
A big right from Ship misses.
Mfer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Ship connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Ship shoots in but Mfer avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Mfer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Mfer throws an overhand right that lands on Ship's shoulder, as Ship tries to avoid the shot.
Ship with the counter takedown but Mfer avoids it easily.
A jab from Ship misses.
Isopaa Mfer is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Ship punishes Mfer's body with a nice straight punch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ship moves forwards but Mfer connects with a nice, crisp jab.

It looks like Roman Ship has been cut.
Ship will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mfer gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Ship.
Ship keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Mfer.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!

Jab by Ship.
Mfer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ship with the counter takedown but Mfer avoids it easily.
Mfer throws a shot from downtown. Ship moves away and avoids it.
Mfer drops his hands momentarily and Ship takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Mfer thuds his right hand into Ship's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Ship has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mfer throws the left hand but Ship avoids the punch easily.
Ship gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Mfer.

Ship throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Mfer was covering up waiting for the punch and Ship finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Ship being controlled here momentarily.
Mfer looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Mfer has control of Ship's left arm, preventing Ship from doing any damage.
Ship trying to control the position from guard on top but Mfer is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ship might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Mfer haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mfer wants to sweep but no luck.
Mfer is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Ship scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Ship ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Mfer throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Ship clinches up with Mfer and pushes him back against the cage.
Mfer working hard to break the clinch.

Mfer breaks from the clinch.
A nice leg kick lands there from Mfer.

Mfer tries to sprawl but Ship drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ship is trying to control. Mfer wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Ship wants to free his trapped foot but Mfer is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Ship is keen to just control but Mfer is a slippery customer.
Roman Ship has got the better of the ground game so far.

Well, if Ship is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Ship. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Ship is trying to work for a kimura but Mfer is defending well.
Mfer preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Ship looking to sit in guard and control but Mfer gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Mfer stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ship swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Ship is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
And that is the end of the round. The fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Roman Ship will probably get the nod - 10:9.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ship uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Mfer.
Ship tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Mfer was well out of range. Poor timing from Ship.

Mfer takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Mfer missing with a left hand there. Ship was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Ship changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Mfer throws a looping overhand right but Ship ducks down to avoid it.
Roman Ship seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Ship slips under a jab from Mfer.
Ship jabs Mfer to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Ship lands a slapping body shot.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Ship lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Ship throws a big shot that misses.
Ship keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.

Mfer throws a body shot but no joy.
A jab lands there for Ship.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Mfer swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Ship misses with a takedown attempt - Mfer sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Mfer gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ship is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Roman Ship.
Well Ship has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
