PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Macka Briggs (ranked 410 p4p, 547 weight class) and Jovan Dickons (ranked 59 p4p, 82 weight class). Briggs comes to the cage accompanied by Stepping Razor by Peter Tosh. Dickons comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Sidung kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Macka Briggs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jovan Dickons!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Bruno Hogan and Damien Edna.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Briggs's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Briggs duly obliges.

It looks like Jovan Dickons has been cut.
Dickons fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Briggs manages to avoid it.
Briggs seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.
Dickons will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Dickons has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Dickons sizes up Briggs with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Dickons shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Dickons was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Briggs drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Dickons has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Briggs can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Briggs with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dickons is trying to control the position but Briggs postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Briggs got a little sloppy there for a moment and Dickons has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Briggs has managed to get both his arms back between Dickons's legs - danger averted.
Briggs has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Briggs is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Dickons is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

Dickons has his foot on Briggs's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Briggs works his way back into a safe position though.

Dickons slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Dickons postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Dickons is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Dickons has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
