Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Thompson (ranked 289 p4p, 521 weight class) and Takeda Shida (ranked 17 p4p, 32 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 33 - 20 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ricky Thompson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Takeda Shida!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Timothy Bukovac and Don Winkell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shida looks to land a left hand but Thompson moved out of range nicely.
Shida misses with a wild combination.
Thompson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Thompson misses with a low kick.
Ricky Thompson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thompson takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Thompson shoots in for a takedown but Shida shows good takedown defense.
Thompson shoots in looking for a takedown. Shida tries to sprawl out of it but Thompson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Shida manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Thompson misses with a shot to the body
and Shida counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Shida lands with a hook. Thompson tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Some wild striking there from Thompson.
Shida looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Shida, as that shot connected.
Thompson goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Shida doesn't fully commit to the body shot counter.
Shida thuds a left hand into Thompson's body.
Thompson is breathing heavily.
Shida feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Thompson sprawling to the canvas! Thompson rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Shida finish him?!
It looks like Ricky Thompson has been cut.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Shida cracks Thompson with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends Thompson tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Shida pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! Thompson is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Takeda Shida!
An out of breath Takeda Shida thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
